Where In the World Are They?

A company is based in New York with offices in Canada and England and vendors in China and Mexico.  Their biggest client is in California, their top salesman is in at a convention in Nevada, and in Taiwan, a new custom product is at a crucial decision stage in the manufacturing process.  Sounds like an impossible situation, right?  It’s not so impossible these days… if the company uses teleconferencing that is.

With the power of teleconferencing, handling the above example is becoming commonplace.  So what are some uncommon ways teleconferencing is being used?  Well, I found a couple interesting points in an article on Bmighty.com about how companies can leverage their internet costs.

The first interesting point was using teleconferencing to maximize key personnel.  The example given was a remodeling company with fourteen locations, but only a few designers.  Assuming they have a robust rate of business right now, their designers would have been frazzled and jet lagged without the use of teleconferencing.

Key personnel are a valuable commodity, especially when you factor in the costs of finding, attracting, hiring, and keeping them.  It’s important then to get the most of their services.  Whether you have numerous business locations, or spread out branches and clients, using audio, video, and web conferencing allows you to keep your vital employees busy and everywhere at once, without burning them out or stretching them thin.

Speaking of hiring key people, the second interesting point was using teleconferencing to find and hire employees, as well as to put them to work.  Often the best person for the job isn’t in the same city as the company that needs them.  Relocation costs—never low to begin with—can often be a factor in deciding to hire the perfect person.  Unless it’s crucial that an employee be face-to-face with managers or clients, use teleconferencing to get the benefits of their expertise, wherever they are on the planet.

Are any of you already using teleconferencing in these ways?  Leave a comment and tell us about it!
