Getting Internet Attention

Even before the advent of Web 2.0, businesses have been using the internet to get attention from customers and potential customers. In recent years, the web has become so much a part of our lives that a business has to have a website of some kind to be taken seriously at all. Being on the web is a great way for people to learn about your company and its products 24 hours a day. The only problem is, for people to see your site, they first have to want to go there.

The internet is constantly evolving, but there are some constant ideas – and ideas that work for now – that will help to drive traffic to your website. One of the most popular in these Web 2.0 days is including a company blog on your company website. There are many ways to do a business blog, but if you are looking for more traffic, some ideas are better than others.

In Seth Grodin's blog, Seth's Blog, we find a multitude of tips to help create a bigger web presence for your business using a company blog. For example, lists, topical subjects, and news events draw the most attention. Other ideas include making sure to tag (keyword) your posts. Include social constructs such as trackback commentary, polls, blog entry comments, and links to social rating sites such as digg, del.icio.us, and reddit.

Seth's list is a compilation of ideas, his own and others. Some appear to be contradictory, but different blogs exist for different reasons. You need to choose which goes better with what you want your blog to accomplish.
